Paintballing divisionary /community project in partnership with Go ballistic go paintball, Brickett wood

Our first community project was launched in 2008. The idea for this project came from one of the young people who we were working with at the time. We had just finished doing a recreational paint balling activity full of enthusiasm he approached us and said he would really like to play paintballing on a professional level. A few days later he told us that his connections worker said that he might be able to get funding to buy is own paintballing equipment if he submits a business plan to connections, detailing why and what he wanted the funding for. We helped to facilitate this and he was successful receiving funding to buy his kit. This inspired us to ask other young people if they would be interested in being a part of a professional paintballing team most of the young people we asked were very interested. All of the above inspired us to launch. We now have a professional paintballing team (Watford Reform) We train on a regular basis and will start playing the sport on a professional league level this spring.

Seeing the enjoyment and enthusiasm from the young people involved in this project and been inspired by other community projects that have been successful in diverting young people away from crime and anti social behaviour. We are currently in the process of offering this project to councils and other establishments in the local area. It is hoped that we will be successful in receiving enough funding from these establishments to hold a 1 day event once a month for 30-40 young people a time.

The aim of our community/ divisionary project is to give young people something positive to do in their spare time and have some fun. Young people will be required to sign an agreement to say that they will keep out of trouble from the police and that they will not behave anti socially whilst out. Young people who do not fulfil the contract will not be allowed to participate on the project any more. How can we expect young people not to cause anti social behaviour in our community when they are board and have nothing else to do? Providing this project gives young people the option to take a positive direction with their social time and have some fun at the same time.

We aim to hold a paintballing event once a month for referred young people up to a maximum of 40 young people at each event; young people will have the opportunity to take part in recreational paintballing. People who show the skill and attitude necessary to play on a professional level will join a select group of young people who have already started training on a professional level and will be playing at UK league level in the spring of this year.
